Privacy Policy

The short version: We don’t have servers. We don’t have accounts. We don’t collect your audio, your text, or your identity. Your voice is transcribed entirely on your Mac and never leaves it.

1. What we collect

Nothing. TongueType doesn’t have a backend. We don’t use analytics, telemetry, crash reporters, or tracking of any kind. We don’t know your name, your email, or that you’re using the app at all.

2. Your audio and transcriptions

Your audio is captured locally and transcribed by Whisper AI running on your Mac. The transcribed text is inserted at your cursor (or copied to your clipboard, if you chose that option) and then discarded. None of it is ever transmitted anywhere by TongueType.

3. Settings and preferences

Your app preferences (hotkey, selected language, appearance, postprocessing rules, etc.) are saved locally on your Mac. They stay on your device.

If you turn on settings sync (off by default), your preferences sync to your other Macs through your operating system’s built-in sync. Your audio and transcriptions are never uploaded; only the preference values listed in the docs are. The data lives in your own cloud account, not on any TongueType server.

4. Network connections

TongueType connects to the internet for only two reasons:

  • Downloading the Whisper model from Hugging Face the first time you set up the app. No identifying information is sent beyond what’s required for a standard HTTPS file download.
  • Purchasing TongueType Pro, which is processed by our payment provider. The provider manages the transaction; we only receive confirmation that a purchase was made and the information needed to deliver your license (such as your email address).

5. Purchases

When you buy TongueType Pro, our payment provider processes your payment and shares with us the information needed to deliver your license, such as your email address and order details. We use this only to fulfill the purchase, send your receipt and license, and respond to support or refund requests. We do not use it for marketing, and we do not share it with anyone else.

6. Third parties

  • Hugging Face: hosts the Whisper model file that the app downloads on first launch. See the Hugging Face privacy policy.
  • Our payment provider: processes Pro purchases and refunds. They handle your payment information directly; we never see your card details.

We don’t share anything else with anyone, because we don’t collect anything else in the first place.

7. Children

TongueType isn’t directed at children under 13 and doesn’t knowingly collect data from anyone (minor or adult) since we don’t collect data at all.

8. Changes

If we ever change how the app handles data, we’ll update this page and the “Effective” date above. Given the design of the app, we don’t expect that to happen often.
